Word. I have had the goddamnedest time with B4. I remember when I was in group therapy while staying in a psychiatric hospital, I went into a lengthy, clear, rational explanation (or so I thought) to the group about what it is to be a gay transman. Followed by:

" ... Um, what?"

"It means she doesn't like guys, dumbass!"

TOTAL LOGICAL DISCONNECT.

Followed by a lot of flailing and spitting and finally I managed to thump myself on the chest and cry out soulfully, "What?! No! I love men! I want to fuck men up the ass!"

(For best results, read that in my thick Russian accent.)

I guess the simplest explanation is the best, because they seemed to get it after that. Though I'm still pissed off that the group leader took me aside and told me that talking about it hadn't been an appropriate topic for the group, even though a few other (heterosexual, cisgendered) members had gone into detail about their sex lives ... And then we got into an argument over whether I say "inciting" things "to make trouble" due to some deep emotional problem of mine, and, Jesus. *rolls eyes* Yeah, I tried to kill myself in part because I'm trans, and that's why I'm in the hospital, but God forbid I talk about it, because of course I'd just be doing it to offend somebody!

Anyway. *clears throat* Rant over, sorry.

When a time comes where I have to explain my "nonstandard gender identity" I put it in very simple terms. "Hi! My name is Jamie. I'm a girl. No wink-wink-nudge-nudge, no asterisk with fine print. I'm a girl. End of story."

Of course, the standard response is to either A) assume that "I'm a girl" equals "I was born with a vagina" and that I'm one of those people that "wants to be a boy", or B) ignore me outright and go on with their own stupid idea of who I am--because obviously they know me better than I do, even though they just met me, right?

I'm not angry, no not at all...
