Ganked this from das_dingsi to fill up the time. A bit too personal to post to the holiday_wishes comm.
STEP ONE - Make a post (public, friendslocked, filtered...whatever you're comfortable with) to your LJ. The post should contain your list of 10 holiday wishes. The wishes can be anything at all, from simple and fandom-related ("I'd love a Snape/Hermione icon that's just for me") to medium ("I wish for _____ on DVD") to really big ("All I want for Christmas is a new car/computer/house/TV.") The important thing is, make sure these wishes are things you really, truly want.
- If you wish for real life things (not fics or icons), make sure you include some sort of contact info in your post, whether it's your address or just your email address where Santa (or one of his elves) could get in touch with you. [Note: Your home address is not required!]
- Also, make sure you post some version of these guidelines in your LJ, or link to this post or community (it'll be public) so that the holiday joy will spread.
STEP TWO - Surf around this community, your friendslist (or friendsfriends, or just random journals) to see who has posted their list. And now here's the important part:
- If you see a wish you can grant, and it's in your heart to do so, make someone's wish come true. Sometimes someone's trash is another's treasure, and if you have a leather jacket you don't want or a gift certificate you won't use--or even know where you could get someone's dream purebred Basset Hound for free, if you just got a new laptop and your old would be cherished by someone else who just wants something basic for word processing--do it.
You needn't spend money on these wishes unless you want to. The point isn't to put people out, it's to provide everyone a chance to be someone else's holiday elf--to spread the joy. Gifts can be made anonymously or not--it's your call. There are no guarantees with this project, and no strings attached. Just...wish, and it might come true. Give, and you might receive. And you'll have the joy of knowing you made someone's holiday special.
1. Give hugs to all the folks I'll never get to meet but love dearly. Or just have five minutes with them.
2. To meet either Thich Nat Han or Yousuke Ito in person and have a conversation, short or long. Mainly, I'd just love to hear Thich Nat Han talk.
3. Moon Knight fic. I never have the drive, confidence, or energy to realy do good fic, and it pains me that there's so much opportunity wasted. There's one fic on LJ. One.
4. A 1:1 replica of either Sen-chan's or Doggie's jacket. Zanki's guitar is a big plus.
5. The Android Kikaider boxset. I always watch for it cheap, but never buy it.
6. Time. Time to write what I want, be fannish about things that interest me, absorb all the knowledge I wish I had, talk to the people I never see, read the books that always sit on my shelf and are never opened, learn the skills I need for the future.
7. A copy of Redneck Zombies or Superman/Thundercats.
8. To get my copy of Moon Knight #26 signed by Bill Sienkiewicz.
9. To be able to be proud of what I do and like, and not feel like everything must be hidden or unknown. To feel like other people are proud of me or admire my work or think I'm talented or hell, just appreciate sometimes when I try to make sure things are right.
10. A holiday where I don't want to run away and hide or stay perpetually drunk.
